On a hot summer day in 1954, a young boy entered a church in Cuernavaca, Mexico. His name was Carlos, and his hunger drove him to steal money from the collection box. Carlos was arrested and due to receive a harsh sentence for his crime. The newly ordained priest of the church, Father William B. Wasson, asked the court to show mercy. He asked the judge for custody of Carlos so that he could feed him, clothe him, and provide a home for him. The judge accepted. In fact, the judge continued to send boys to Father Wasson. By the end of the year, 32 boys were in his care and Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH, Spanish for “Our Little Brothers and Sisters”) was born.
NPH is currently supporting more than 6,100 boys and girls in Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. In addition, NPH community outreach programs provided over 107,000 services in 2019. We invite you to join us in supporting NPH USA’s Annual Campaign which highlights the lasting, positive impact a single person can make on the lives of vulnerable children. Please join us on June 24th at 1:00pm for a reading by Bishop Ronald Hicks (Archdiocese of Chicago) from his new book about NPH Founder Father William B. Wasson, Change the World. Start with the Children. To register, visit nphusa.org/reading.
By supporting the Annual Campaign, you have the power to empower disadvantaged children and lift them from poverty. Through storytelling, personal experiences and reaching out to your friends, family and co-workers, we want to share the mission and great work of NPH, one person at a time!
Funds raised through the Annual Campaign are used to support the homes, healthcare and educational programs of NPH in Latin America and the Caribbean. Your willingness to share the mission of NPH ensures that NPH will continue to transform the lives of thousands of children.
